Erik Stancofski's path to becoming a general surgeon in Lewes began thousands of miles away.
Raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Erik attended the American University of Beirut, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Biology before completing his medical degree. He later relocated to the United States and completed his General Surgery residency at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.
In 1998, Erik began practicing in Lewes as an attending general surgeon with Lewes Surgical Associates.
Two years later, he co-founded Cape Surgical Associates. He spent approximately 18 years with the practice, combining patient care and surgery with the responsibilities involved in operating a busy private practice.
In 2018, Erik joined Beebe as an attending general surgeon. His career there also included serving as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery.
Erik's background combines medical training with an understanding of healthcare administration.
Bachelor's Degree in Biology — American University of Beirut
Medical Degree — American University of Beirut
General Surgery Residency — St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore
MBA with a Healthcare Emphasis — George Washington University
Throughout his career, Erik has remained involved in the wider surgical and medical community.
His professional background includes:
Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS)
Certification by the American Board of Surgery
Membership in the American Medical Association
Presenter at the Middle East Medical Assembly
Grand Rounds presenter at the American University of Beirut
Presenter at the Southeastern Surgical Congress
He has also contributed to medical education and public awareness through published work, local writing and discussions about surgical care.
After decades in medicine, Erik's understanding of healthcare extends beyond his role as a surgeon. His own experiences as a patient have provided another perspective on the uncertainty people can feel when facing a major medical procedure.
That perspective complements the clinical experience he has accumulated since arriving in Lewes in 1998: combining surgical knowledge, evolving technology and patient communication throughout every stage of care.
